Awe Liberates the Sense of Self: A Small-Self Increases Sensitivity to the Rubber-Hand Illusion

Research indicates that awe promotes a smaller sense of self. Our results showed that participants who felt a smaller sense of self while watching an awe-inspiring video felt more subjective ownership of a rubber hand during a subsequent rubber-hand illusion task, suggesting that awe experiences might involve a “self-liberation” process.
