Abstract
In a community sample, links between emotion regulation and romantic relationship quality depended on the extent to which one’s view of self incorporates relationships (relational-interdependent self-construal; RISC). RISC was associated with greater use of ER; among people higher in RISC, maladaptive ER strategies' associations with negative relationship outcomes were attenuated.
