Abstract
We explored how providing relevant and irrelevant probabilistic information influences people’s risk estimates in a medical context. Access to relevant information reduced reliance on affective heuristics while introducing a probability weighting bias, suggesting that subjective influences on risk perception vary depending on the availability of relevant objective information.
