Abstract

Past research focused on the negative impact of essentialist beliefs on intergroup attitudes; little research has examined their potentially positive effects. Two preregistered studies proposed and found that social class essentialism can facilitate support for the low SESs. Implications of the findings and potential boundary conditions will be discussed.
