Abstract

We examined associations between maternal stress before conception and length of a subsequent pregnancy (in weeks) in a diverse sample. Controlling for medical risk, perceived stress before conception was associated with earlier births in a subsequent pregnancy. However, moderate levels of preconception environmental stressors predicted longer gestation (a curvilinear effect).
