Abstract
This study examined the relation between undermining relatedness and adolescent social anxiety and the moderating role of beliefs about parental authority over friendships. Observed maternal undermining relatedness was strongly related to adolescents’ social anxiety. This relation was stronger for adolescents who did not believe parents have authority over their friendships.
