Abstract
Older adulthood is often characterized by intractable stress that can compromise well-being. Coping strategies facilitating disengagement may protect well-being. Our research examined intraindividual stress variability and well-being as moderated by age and disengagement. Our results demonstrate that stress predicted diminished well-being but was buffered by disengagement, especially in older adulthood.
