Emotional Interdependence in Couples: How Optimism Promotes Positive Affect over Time

Abstract
In romantic relationships, an individual’s affect is likely to be influenced by their partner. One factor hypothesized to moderate this emotional interdependence is optimism. Results showed that a person’s own mood increases longitudinally when their partner is high in positive affect, but only if the partner is an optimist.
