Abstract

In romantic relationships, an individual’s affect is likely to be influenced by their partner. One factor hypothesized to moderate this emotional interdependence is optimism. Results showed that a person’s own mood increases longitudinally when their partner is high in positive affect, but only if the partner is an optimist.
