Abstract

The stress pulses of English are unmarked, yet skilled readers render its melody. Extrapolating from psycholinguistic theory, an intervention was designed to heighten prosody sensitivity in silent readers. Participants judged the accuracy of stress/rhythm-enhanced text (intervention) or spelling/word usage (control). The pre/post prosody sensitivity measure revealed the effectiveness of training.
