Abstract

Disfluent font has sometimes improved comprehension of inconsistent text. The present study explored whether disfluent text aids performance on semantically misaligned mathematical word problems. Participants solved semantically aligned and misaligned problems, in fluent or disfluent fonts. Contrary to hypotheses, disfluent text exacerbated negative effects of semantic misalignment on problem success.
