Abstract
Among a large sample of young children in Ghana, SEM was used to examine whether executive functions (working memory, impulse control) mediates the relation between socioeconomic status (family poverty, parent education) and growth in academic achievement (math, reading) across one year of school. Results support a significant partial mediation.
