Abstract

Previous research suggests low-arousal emotions, such as serenity, increase cognitive openness. 77 undergraduate participants were induced to feel either serenity or happiness, then responded to scenarios designed to measure dialectic reasoning. As we predicted, participants in the serenity condition showed more dialectic thinking than those in the happiness condition.
