Competition (Versus Control) Mindset Moderated the Effects of Absolute and Relative Standing Information on Affective Response

For the competition group, neither absolute nor relative standing impacted negative affect. For the control group, an absolute x relative standing interaction was observed: Relative standing did not matter if participants received higher absolute score; whereas if participants received lower score, higher relative standing reduced negative affect.
