Declines in Memory and Physical Performance after Activating Ageing Stereotypes in Virtual Reality

In two independent studies, this research attempts to activate ageing stereotypes in virtual reality and to measure the effects of this activation on performance in younger adults embodying either an older or a younger avatar. We find strong and significant declines in memory and physical performance under the age-incongruent condition.
