Abstract

Errors have traditionally been viewed as aversive events to be avoided or, at best, serendipitous accidents. Challenging these views, this research tests the counterintuitive learning benefits of deliberately responding incorrectly. We show that deliberately committing and correcting errors not only produces superior knowledge retention, but also promotes higher order learning.
