Partner (but not Actor) Perceptions of Aging Predict Positive Relationship Quality over Time in Older Couples

Abstract
Using longitudinal data from the Health and Retirement Study, results indicated having a spouse who has more positive perceptions of aging is associated with feeling closer and more supported by one’s spouse four years later, but one’s own perceptions of aging only showed a cross-sectional association with closeness and support.
