Perceptions of Betrayal Matter in Betrayal Trauma Research

Abstract
We hypothesized perceptions of betrayal, whether the event meets the objective criteria of betrayal put forth by Betrayal Trauma Theory or not, is an important predictor of trauma-related outcomes. We found that perceived betrayal predicts unique variance in PTSD and depression symptoms, even when controlling for objective betrayal.
