Abstract

Participants read about a musician described either as an underdog or topdog and either as intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. Musicians described as underdogs or as intrinsically motivated received greater liking and support, though there were no interactions between these manipulations. We explore implications of musician motivation on evaluations from others.
