Competitiveness and Leadership Emergence: The Role of Affective Motivation to Lead

Abstract
We used a leaderless group discussion exercise to examine the mediating role of affective motivation to lead on relationships between competitiveness and self-rated, group-rated, and observer-rated leadership emergence. Results suggested that competitiveness has an indirect effect on leadership emergence through affective motivation to lead. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
