Abstract
We show that people misunderstand, and thus use heuristic thinking, when judging economic distributions. We find evidence of (a) under-sensitivity to information regarding the middle of the distribution, (b) a “1/n” bias resulting in partition-dependent preferences, and (c) reported preferences that depend on the unit of allocation.
