Teaching Techniques That Convert "Understanding" into Belief

Abstract
In assessing learning we often ignore the difference between understanding and belief. We first identified findings from introductory psychology about which students’ test scores indicated understanding, but they did not believe them. Two pedagogical techniques, counter-attitudinal advocacy and perspective taking) were found to be effective in bridging this gap.
