Understanding of Desires: An Experimental Study of the Verbal and Gestural Responses to Food Request By Chinese Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

This study investigates language and intention reading by Chinese children with ASD (20 children, mean age 6;7, 5;3 – 7;7) in an adapted food request experiment (Repacholi and Gopnik 1997). The results reveal deficits in children’s responses in matched and mismatched conditions, correlating with their receptive vocabularies and syntactic complexity.
