When Mental Simulation Runs Arithmetic Problem Solving

Abstract
Students persist in their use of informal strategies when solving arithmetic problems even after instruction (Brissiaud & Sander, 2010), yet the mental processes responsible for this persistence are an open question. We introduce a mental simulation framework that provides an account for this phenomenon.
