Abstract

Social interactions often require trust that others will reciprocate. To understand how this foundational component of economic behavior develops, we tested children on a Trust Game. Sensitivity to opportunities for reciprocation was already evident in 4-year-old children, whereas 6-year-old children were more successful at differentiating the trustworthiness of partners.
