Exposure to Sexualized Women: A Threat to the Social Self or to the Individual Self?

Abstract
In two studies, we confronted two hypotheses regarding the nature of the threat encountered by women exposed to a sexualized counterpart. Results suggest that the amount of self-threat –captured by an attentional task—is due to upward social comparison, but not to a threat to social identity.
