Abstract

Using a novel eye-tracking method, the present study revealed that phonological recoding mechanisms are activated very early on during exposure to lexical stimuli. These 'early effects' are indicated by a higher peak error amplitude for pseudohomophone stimuli compared to pronounceable non-words and (particularly) unpronounceable non-words.
