The Effects of Labeling on Gaze Properties in 2-Year-Old Children

Abstract

We examined children’s looking behavior during language learning. Two-year-old children showed an increase in the duration of fixations when hearing known labels and novel labels, but not when hearing non-labeling phrases. Results suggest that language influences visual sampling strategies in young children.
