Abstract
Organizations undertaking “best practices research” (BPR) do not undertake activities recommended in the literature. BPR practitioners rely on peer-recommended or popularity ratings, display excessive optimism, and tend to satisfice “workable” or “identifiable” programs. Two case examples from higher education are presented to illustrate common BPR research practices.
