Motor-to-Sensory Transformation in Learning Nonnative Speech

Abstract

Mandarin speakers cannot learn foreign vowels when auditory feedback was masked. When feedback was available, they can only learn the foreign vowel that was less similar to their native language. These results suggest that motor-to-sensory transformation interacts with sensory goals in second language acquisition.
