Abstract

Genericity is typically tested with bare plural subjects ("Triangles are three-sided"). The indefinite ("A triangle…") and definite singular ("The triangle…") can also be acceptable even though the definite singular often receives individual/episodic reference. However, all three subjects behaved similarly in a concept acquisition task, and differed from a specific-reference control.
