Self-Generating Questions Is As Effective As Testing in University Learning

Abstract
University students self-generated questions and answers related to the contents of a lecture, answered questions, or simply restudied the content. Self-generating questions and testing improved short- and long-term retention more than restudying. The effects were revealed for both factual and transfer knowledge.
