Abstract

We studied how bodily self-control and self-awareness modulate free will beliefs. Results showed that physical constraints on self-control (e.g., chronic headache) decrease belief in free will. Further, an altered sense of ownership over bodily experience, not sense of agency over action, was associated with increased deterministic belief.
