The Jigsaw Puzzle of Self: Self-Concept Clarity Lays the Foundation for Self-Continuity

Abstract
Jigsaw puzzle metaphor of self concerns about the relationships among self-concept clarity, autobiographic memory (AM) and self-continuity. We hypothesized threatening self-concept clarity would disrupt self-continuity, and AM would help to counter the negative influence of threatened self-concept clarity by restoring self-continuity. Six studies provided converging support to the hypotheses.
