Improving Student Success and Retention through Classmate Relationships

Abstract

Students often leave university due to difficulties integrating. We evaluated the impact of a closeness-induction task on retention. Students in the closeness condition rated partners higher and excelled academically, compared to a small-talk condition. We expect these factors will predict university retention at the start of the next academic year.
