Enhancing Autobiographical Memory to Improve Treatment of Depression and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Translation of Experimental Cognitive Science Into Clinical Practice
Retrieval of specific, autobiographical memories represents a target for mechanism-focused treatment of mental illness. We demonstrate how the ability to retrieve specific memories impacts response to cognitive therapy. We then present experiments evaluating behavioral and neuroimaging techniques for improving specific memories, and the mechanisms through which specific memories impact wellbeing.
