Tenure, Workload, and Leadership: An Ethnographic Study of Department Climate

Abstract

This study explored the academic climate of one department over the course of a calendar year, with special attention to workload issues, leadership style, and the tenure process. Results suggest that a sizeable proportion of the faculty were clearly affected by the bullying and un-collegial climate that they experienced.
