The Effect of Photographs on Believing, Liking, and Sharing Information in a Mock-Social Media Environment

Abstract
Participants rated whether they believed, liked, and would share general knowledge statements in a simulated social media environment. True and false information accompanied by a related photo was significantly more believed, liked, and shared than information presented alone. An accompanying photo can increase the spread of misinformation via social media.
