Abstract
In two experiments, racial minority and majority participants rated the extent to which they pursued specific goals during race-related conversations with ingroup and outgroup friends. Participants endorsed more social, learning, value, group, and self-based goals when engaging with outgroup compared to ingroup friends. This relationship was moderated by participant race.
