Equality Under the Law? Effects of Gender, Gender Role, and Gender Role Endorsement on Criminal Sentencing

This study examines the role of mock jurors’/judges’ traditional gender role endorsement on the sentencing outcomes for a criminal defendant. The more conservative a participant’s gender role beliefs, the stricter the sentence they imposed on gender role incongruent (masculine woman, feminine man) rather than congruent defendants.
