Abstract

255 Mexican-origin sixth-graders completed questionnaires measuring their parents’ academic socialization messages, adolescents’ future goals, and parent-adolescent conversations. Moderated mediation models showed that parents’ messages positively affected adolescents’ future goals which positively affected their grades. Adolescents’ self-disclosure in parent-adolescent conversations amplified the positive effects of parental messages on their future goals.
