How Drunk Is Too Drunk? an Exploration of Alcohol and Sexual Consent

Abstract

Most sexual assaults on college campuses involve alcohol (Muehlenhard, 2016). This study examines relationships between alcohol consumption and sexual consent. Of 435 participants, 80% agreed that if one has been drinking heavily, they cannot consent. Yet, given situational vignettes, >50% claimed valid consent when at least one partner was drinking.
