Abstract
Researchers have suggested social and cognitive factors predicting academic achievement operate differently for African American students, however, little empirical research has examined the impact of communalism, academic identity and need for cognition on the academic outcomes of African American undergraduates attending Historically Black Colleges/Universities. This exploratory study examined that impact.
