Abstract

Aspects of individuals' personalities affect their likelihood of voting for third-party candidates. Controlling for ideological agreement with candidates in a hypothetical election, and for general perspectives toward third parties, we find third-party voting is influenced by personality traits including openness to new experiences, agreeableness, and tendency to maximize versus satisfice.
