Abstract

Two hundred twenty-eight native speakers of four languages (104 English, 26 French, 48 Spanish, and 50 Portuguese) matched 28 color swatches to 20 different “basic” emotion words. Overall, we found very little consistency and specificity between what colors English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers associate with emotion words.
