Abstract

Women (n =240) completed surveys about their motivations for wearing makeup. Factor analysis showed the motivations fell into three categories: “everyday presentable,” “creative expression,” and “sex appeal.” “Everyday presentable” and “sex appeal” scores were positively correlated with greater body surveillance, whereas “creative expression” scores were positively correlated with body appreciation.
