Abstract

In the Ebbinghaus size illusion and tilt orientation illusion, assimilation occurs when inducers follow a target, but the classic contrast effect occurs otherwise. The present study showed that the pattern of prospective-contrast and retrospective-assimilation also be found in more general processes of size and brightness perception.
