This study examined the bidirectional association between alcohol consumption and cognitive function using data from two longitudinal cohort studies based in UK and Europe. Cross-lagged models indicated that alcohol drinking was associated with less decline across multiple cognitive domains and that cognition influenced subsequent alcohol consumption similarly at different ages.
