Contextual Stress: Heart Rate Variability and Sympathetic Activation Impact Stress Recovery for Victims of Trauma Depending on Type of Stressor

Abstract
In order to explain individual differences following exposure to stress, the present study assessed sympathetic nervous system responses with heart rate variability. Heart rate variability showed a significant interaction effect between the type of stressor and whether participants were identified as having symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
