Abstract

We examined perceptions of coerciveness and race effects in police interrogations. Transcripts were created, establishing non-coercive and moderately coercive interrogations (Study 1). Study 2 examined race effects on perceptions of coerciveness and guilt. Confidence in guilty verdicts was greater for Black versus White suspects in non-coercive versus moderately coercive interrogations.
