Abstract

Previous research reported that sitting with one’s own thoughts for 15-minuntes prompts some participants to self-administer an electric shock (Wilson et al., 2014). The current study suggests that the decision to self-shock is motivated by the stimulation associated with the risk of being shocked rather the than the shock itself.
